This is the second of two blogs and paintings we are focusing on WebPT’s core values:
PART I: See DIVE FAR & HIGH!
ATTITUDE – POSSESS TRUE GRIT
Even when things don’t go according to plan; we maintain the passion, determination,
and can do attitude necessary to right the ship and get things back on course.
WORK ETHIC – BE ROCK SOLID
We definitely value hard work. More than that, though we value smart work
– work that is innovative, creative and brilliant.
ILLUSTRATIONS STORY
PART II: THE FINISH LINE
Russell Olsen said something that stuck with me when he stated, “You are not alone. When you have a weak moment, like we all do, the team can pick you up and carry you across the finish line and sometimes you carry them. It feeds off each other and makes us who we are.”
So….go ahead, I double dare you, Google “carried across the finish line” then get yourself a box of tissues and watch. One video after another of people losing their legs running a marathon and some selfless person or persons sometimes related, sometimes team mates often times total strangers stopping their race, to get their fellow competitor across the finish line that is hundreds of yards away.
I could have chosen many scenarios to be inspired by. Go ahead you pick your favorite story! It won’t be easy! This painting however, was inspired by Jim Driscoll and Mitch Kies who carried Ari Ofsevit over the finish line in 2016 when he got heat stroke while running the Boston Marathon. Like a true competitor, when he came to the next day in intensive care his first question, according to the Boston Globe, was “What was my time?” (3:03:05) Ofsevit was a perfect example of true grit when he went back in 2018 to run the marathon a third time with the team of Tufts Medical Center who saved his life.
Russell brings up an image that regardless of the scenario says – we are going to work hard and be a team and carry one another to victory!
This concept also speaks to taking care of weak and vulnerable which is what dogs are when they need to be re-homed. This image also speaks directly to DLRR in an unexpected way as well.
Work was shown at the The Art of Fearlessly Giving Back I – Web PT opening on May 18, 2018 at The Arizona Science Center.
